Nick Honeyman-Brown

I feel privileged to be appointed the first Chair of the new Executive Council. As a Society Member of some 15 years standing I have seen the Society grow from strength to strength during that time. During my tenure as Chair it is my intention to place my skills and experience at the disposal of the Society and help to steer it into a position where the public have no doubt about the value that can be provided by consulting Society Members. We all know that the Will is an essential piece of personal, family and financial planning and I would like to see many more people taking advantage of the skills practised by Society Members in arranging their affairs. At the same time I would like the Society to forge ever closer links with the external authorities who have an interest in the way which we regulate our work. We are fortunate to have the collective experience and skills of 10 strong members making up the new Executive Council to help the Society achieve these objectives. I look forward to working with them and to bringing benefits to all Society Members.

I bring to the Executive my experience that I have across the board at corporate level dealing with such matters as Regulation, Business Planning, Marketing, HR, plus many more, all or any of which can be called upon to add value to the future of the Society. My aim during my term of office is to improve the brand image of the Society so that consumers will feel even more confident to conduct business with its members, as well as ensure that we are well placed to deal with the potential changes in Regulation.

Shirley Batten-Smith

I originally joined The Society as an affiliate member in 2006 and started my own business in 2009 after completing the SWW EPP course. My background is retail banking, a researcher/writer at Which? Magazine and working as a financial adviser for the last 10 years. I specialize in working with older clients and find them to be very positive about dealing with a member of The Society so I would like to see an increasing awareness of our ‘brand’ and why our members should be the first choice to help clients. I am proud to call myself a member of The Society and decided to offer my skills and experience to help in any way I can to make a useful contribution to the members and further the aims of The Society.
